 El chess boxing es un deporte que combina el ajedrez y el boxeo. Este deporte empezo a practicarse en
primavera de 2003. Este deporte fue creado por Iepe Rubingh.

El juego consiste de 11 rounds en donde el jugador después de hacer un movimiento, le tiene que propinar un golpe a su contrincante. Aunque es difícil seguir las reglas cuando reciben tremenda golpiza después de los 3 minutos, lo cual hace que muchos sufran de retardo mental a los 6 minutos de juego. No se permite cubrirse la cara, ni darse golpes por debajo, ni tampoco está permitido lanzarle las piezas del ajedréz al contrincante, los duelos terminan cuando el jugador hace el jaquemate o noquea a su contrincante, si terminan los once rounds, se decide por una prueba de coeficiente intelectual, y el que tenga el índice más alto gana el desempate.

El primer campeonato mundial fue en Amsterdam, en 2003, el campeón fue Iepe Rubingh. El primer campeonato europeo de chess boxing fue en Berlin, en Octubre de 2005, donde Tihomir Titschko gano a Andres Schneider.
